Why a Targeted Lawn Renovation?
Bentgrass and Rough Bluegrass cannot be selectively treated like traditional weeds. Because they are grasses growing within your grass, the only effective solution is to remove the affected areas and establish new, healthy turf.

How Targeted Lawn Renovation Works
Targeted Lawn Renovation is a step-by-step process designed to remove undesirable grasses such as Bentgrass and Rough Bluegrass and replace them with healthier, more desirable turf. Here’s what you can expect:
1. Schedule Your Renovation
We’ll visit your property and clearly define the areas to be renovated.
- Evaluate existing turf
- Measure renovation areas
- Recommend the best seed blend
- Answer any questions before work begins
2. Eliminate Existing Vegetation
Late Summer to Early Fall
We apply a professional non-selective herbicide to remove existing vegetation in the designated areas.
Why?
Because the best way to establish premium turf is to eliminate unwanted grasses and start with a clean slate.
3. Prepare the Area
Scalp & Remove Dead Grass
Approximately one week later:
- Mow the area as short as possible
- Remove loose dead vegetation
This is typically the homeowner’s responsibility, but we can provide this service for an additional charge.
4. Slit Seed for Maximum Density
The Most Important Step
Once the area is prepared, we return with our commercial slit seeder.
We will:
- Make passes in two directions
- Place seed directly into the soil
- Apply seed at new lawn installation rates
- Apply starter fertilizer
5. Watering & Establishment
Water Is Critical
Proper watering is one of the biggest factors in successful germination.
We’ll provide detailed watering instructions tailored to your renovation.
Consistent moisture during the germination period helps ensure the best possible results.
6. Follow-Up Service
We Don’t Stop After Seeding
Approximately 5–7 weeks later, we return to:
- Apply a second starter fertilizer treatment
- Promote root development
- Evaluate establishment
- Reseed areas that may need additional attention
